LinkedIn profile optimisation is the process of making changes to your profile to ensure it is more attractive and visible to potential employers, customers and like-minded individuals growing their networks. Making your profile a priority is an important part of networking on LinkedIn, as it helps you stand out from the crowd and make the best possible impression.

Optimising your profile is not just about adding the right keywords and making sure it looks attractive to potential connections, it’s also about understanding how LinkedIn works, crafting an effective profile summary, and creating a strong network of professional contacts.

Profile and Cover Picture: Your profile and cover pictures are one of the most important parts of your profile. It’s what people see first; they can build familiarity which in turn can lead to trust. I would always recommend having a high-quality headshot as your profile picture with a clear background.

Featured: This is a very under-utilised section of LinkedIn; the featured tab gives you a section to show off your best work and most successful posts and articles.

Experience: All relevant experience is important! If there is a gap in your experience, then it’s really important to share why that is – even if you weren’t working during that time. Group irrelevant experience into one section and this may also be the reason for the gaps.

Recommendations & Endorsements: Having 20+ recommendations and 99+ endorsements for your skills are a great example of ‘social-proof’. You are more likely to receive opportunities and build trust with your connections, if others have commitment to publicly stating what you are good at.

Key components of your LinkedIn profile

Having a complete profile is the ideal scenario for anyone wanting to have the best presence possible, however, I’d like to highlight the areas that are of extra importance.

Vanessa’s method to gaining interaction

Vanessa’s method: Recruiting Gym coach Vanessa Raath has an amazing interaction rate on her LinkedIn posts. Whilst she does have a strong following, that can’t be the only reason her posts perform so well.

To find out her secret she joined us on our Daily Workout sessions for LinkedIn week and gave an interesting explanation as to why her posts do so well, but I think it’s best you hear it in her own words.

Times to post: Of course, there are times in the day that yield higher visibility rates for your posts than others. We just happen to know these exact times thanks to Rohit Kapoor and the LinkedIn Algorithm report for 2022.

Rohit, the co-founder of Paiger, joined us on the Daily Workout to share how we can take advantage of the algorithm to maximise our reach on LinkedIn

Conclusion

Optimising your LinkedIn profile is an important step in networking and showcasing your skills. By following the tips and tricks outlined in this post, you can make sure your profile is visible, engaging, and professional.

Remember, your LinkedIn profile is an extension of your professional self, so make sure to take the time to create an effective profile and optimise it for better visibility and engagement.
